Are pest control treatments safe?
A - The spraying of pesticides is not required for every pest control application as it depends on your circumstances and the pest involved. Other methods can be used, such as physically modifying the environment or trapping, to achieve the required results. Should pesticides be applied, formulations and insect baits are selected with the lowest toxicity available and areas would be focused on away from people and pets. Our daily routine is to also treat establishments such as student hostels and old age homes.
What about the safety of my pets?
A - Birds and fish are extremely sensitive to pesticides and should be removed before treatment. However, shortly after chemicals have been applied, these pets may return to their original locations. Cats, dogs, other mammals and reptiles would not be in danger during or after treatments.
What about sensitive and allergic persons?
A - Some people are more sensitive than others. Each pest is treated differently, and various products and methods could be considered to gain control over the pest - we refer to this as integrated pest control. Therefore, products could be applied in selected areas (out of the way) or non-chemical products could be used. Alternatively, corrections could be made to the environment to minimize the impact on persons.
Are the pest products applied environmentally friendly?
A - Yes, all our products are environmentally friendly. As these products are manufactured from natural products, it breaks down 100% in nature within a short period.
I have heard that cockroaches are clean insects?
Cockroaches thrive in filthy environments. Their bodies may shine of cleanliness but microscopically they are covered with germs which could cause gastric illnesses.
How do pests enter our premises?
A - Cockroaches may attach themselves or their egg capsules to plastic crates, cardboard boxes, potato bags or any other packaging usually stored in warehouses or store rooms and can therefore be carried into your home.
Could they be coming from our neighbours?
A - They could certainly travel from one apartment to another if you live in a multi-unit building. Insects such as cockroaches, fleas and bed bugs, could also attach themselves to your shoes and clothing during a visitation of such infested premises/ homes as they are mainly dependant on hosts to travel.
Will insect pests return after treatment?
A - Pest control treatment targets a specific pest, taking the life cycle into account. The adult species would certainly be eliminated, but the egg or larva stages may survive, leading to their reappearance. In this case a follow up treatment will be necessary.
Would cockroaches living in sewers enter my home?
A - Normally it is the large American cockroach which is found in sewers. They prefer to live there, not inside homes. They could easily enter a building, but it is unlikely for them to remain indoors to breed. The smaller German cockroach is an indoors pest roach, found inside homes and restaurants. These roaches are mainly found inside homes and restaurants as it dislikes outdoor living.
Why do we have flies - of what use are they in nature?
A - Without flies we will be living in a rotting environment. The life cycle of flies includes egg-, larva- (maggot) and pupa stages. Flies lay eggs in rotting matter such as dead birds and animals. Maggots emerge within 24 hours to consume all rotten tissue … so we could live in a clean environment.
Does one need to vacate the premises during a pest control treatment?
A - Products applied are non-toxic to humans therefore you need not vacate the premises, however, it is recommended that sensitive persons remain outside while treatment is carried out. Our technicians are exposed daily to the chemicals and therefore need to wear protective equipment in terms of the Occupational Health & Safety Act, for their long-term protection.
What service warranty would I receive?
A - With a service agreement in place, you should have no further worries regarding your pest problems. Should the pest return, we shall return … without further costs! According to the manufacturers, chemical products applied to wall surfaces may remain active for up to three months, should it not be disturbed (washed off or wiped off). With each pest control treatment, it is not always possible to penetrate every crack and crevice where insects hide. However, every treatment is designed to prepare for these insects re-appearing, therefore appropriate measures would be in place to control them.
Do pest control products stain furniture?
A - Some products may stain walls and furniture and others don't. One can choose a product which do not stain or smell, all being equally potent.
Will the pest control products smell badly?
A - Odourless products are normally used which are just as effective as the old generation products, e.g. organophosphates, which has an unpleasant smell. The latter is a toxic product which use is preferably restricted to outdoor applications.
Do we need to clear cupboards in preparation of the treatment?
A - To reach every corner, joint and crack present in furniture, it is advisable to clear cupboards in order to apply insect products onto all surfaces, especially inside cupboards, where it is dark. Such activity would be a specific requirement for the treatment of cockroaches and silver fish.
